The Gambia OIC Secretariat in collaboration with its partners, the Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MOTWI), National Roads Authority (NRA), Department of Lands and Surveys (DLS) and The Gambia Physical Planning and Housing Department (PPHD) has completed its two-day community outreach exercise, ending in Kanifing. The aim of the exercise was to meet with property owners affected by the construction works along road P2 in Kanifing. The exercise comes ahead of the clearing for the Right of Way on P2 road in Kanifing for the 50KM Urban Road project.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Gambia OIC Secretariat, Mr. Essa Bokarr Sey, thanked the community of Kanifing for the warm reception. He highlighted the importance of national development and the benefits of the OIC, citing countries that have gained massive development by virtue of hosting the Summit. He sought the support of the community as the clearing for the right of way is set to commence for construction to proceed as planned.
Mr. Kebba Trawally the Project Manager (NRA) addressed the plans in place for the 50KM road project, which will feature streetlights, drainage systems, Fibre cables and poles for electricity. He informed the meeting that the road plan was amended to reduce its impact on property owners while delivering quality.
Mr. Siaka Saidykhan, Senior Lands & Valuation Officer, Department of Lands and Surveys (DLS) addressed the community concerns over compensation processes. He said the valuation of properties affected is currently in process and will be completed prior to demolition. He assured them that all property owners will be compensated fairly.
The day ended with an interactive session in an effort to address issues of concern to the community.
