The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MOTWI), the National Roads Authority (NRA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Gambia Armed Forces Engineers (GAF Engineers) and the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) for the relocation of NAWEC water and electricity services for the construction of the 50km OIC roads project.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gambia OIC Secretariat, Mr. Yankuba Dibba commended the Ministry of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure for the laudable initiative. He added, with the partnership, work can progress as planned.
“The signing ceremony marks a milestone in civil-military relationship. The Army will play a huge role in accelerating the project,” CEO Dibba said.
He thanked the stakeholders for their collective commitment in fast-tracking all the projects.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Ebrima Sillah, the Minister of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs, Mr. Abba Sanyang, the Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mr. Abdoulie Jobe and other senior government officials.
Under the MoU, the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) will Supervise The Gambia Armed Forces Engineers in approving proposed relocation, specifying standards and carrying out skilled tasks in relation to the project.
The GAF engineers will undertake the responsibility of excavation, installation, concreting, installation of air valves as well as the removal of existing electricity poles to facilitate relocation.
MOTWI and NRA will monitor the process, judge progress and ensure a timely delivery and implementation of the project.
